Welcome to the Whitney Intermediate Library!

Each student comes to the library one day each week according to their scheduled time. At this time, each student will get two library books: one non-fiction and one fiction chapter book.

• Students may take more than one week to complete a chapter book, but they should finish a short nonfiction book or easy fiction book within a week’s time.
• Students have free choice to get any reading level and length of book!

Each student will start with 5 front/back pages. Additional pages will be added as needed. Parents and teachers may assist students in completing the papers. Students are instructed how the papers are to be completed during library class time.

• Page 1: Front - “Reading Information” - students place tally marks in the appropriate locations. Back - “Rainbow Reading” - students will get a dot sticker that matches the color of dot on the book and write the number of the six weeks on it.
• Page 2: Front - “Texas Reading Club” - students are to read a minimum of 10 chapter books, and 10 nonfiction books during the school year. Back - Texas Bluebonnet Award Program - students may choose to read 15 out of the 20 books to earn a special award on awards day at the end of the school year.
• Page 3: Front - “World Reader” - Students will be reading a book for each of the seven continents. Back - “World Reader Book Response” - Students will complete this page as they complete the corresponding books.
• Page 4: Front/Back - “Student Reading Log” - Every single book that a student gets from the library will be recorded on this page.
• Page 5: Front/Back - “Library Book Response” - Each book that a student finishes will need a book response completed. If they did not finish the book, they will note on the Student Reading Log page the reason they did not finish the book.
• The sooner the papers are completed, the sooner students get to search for new books during their library class time and read in a cozy reading location!
